About xnvr Studio
xnvr is a one-person app studio. I build tools I want to use myself and turn the ideas I want to share into products. Even when we enjoy doing something, we tend to put it off if getting started or finishing up takes too much time or effort. It also takes mental energy to keep deciding where to begin, what's enough, and what to do next. At xnvr, I simplify the steps, make the choices clearer, and explain what to do next in plain language. I make products so more people can do the things they love more often and enjoy both the process and the result more fully.
I enjoy singing and recording my own tracks. After I finish recording, mixing takes another day or two. I have to keep deciding what to adjust and how, so sometimes I put off recording even when there's a song I want to sing. I also had trouble finding a simple way to share a finished track with the people close to me. I'm building Loft to make it easier to polish a recording and share the finished track.
The details of a day spent together fade over time. To revisit it vividly, I have to take notes separately or go back through scattered photos and calendar entries. Offscene brings photos, calendar entries, and other traces from the tools we used that day into one page. I'm building it to make it easier to remember a day without keeping a separate journal, and to give the people who were there a page they can share and revisit together.
I take a photo when I want to remember a moment. It's hard to find the right framing and angle in a few seconds. If I don't like how a photo turns out, I'm less likely to look at it again or share it. Framewise is a camera I'm designing to make those choices easier while shooting, so I can stay in the moment and still take a photo I'll want to see again.
The name xnvr comes from sinabeuro (시나브로), a Korean word that means “little by little, without noticing.” It also describes how I work. I use the products myself and fix what gets in the way, one thing at a time. If the people who use my tools start smiling a little more often without quite noticing, that makes me happier too. The wish to make that kind of change is part of why I chose the name.
On this blog, I'll write about where I get stuck while using my products and which screens and interactions I change in response. I'll share app screenshots and design drafts to explain those decisions. I hope a tool shaped this way gives someone the breathing room to record their next song, or a reason to revisit a day they shared.
